  • Dear Parent/Guardian:

As you know statewide testing, now called the Next Generation Assessments- PARCC, will be starting very soon.  The first set of tests are the Performance Based Assessments (PBA) which assess approximately 75% of the school year’s instruction.  The second set of tests is in the End of the Year Assessments (EOY) which assess approximately 90% of instruction.  We also have the Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA), that all our current third graders took in the fall and will take again in April.  All of our third graders taking the spring OAA reading assessment is a change from what was previously shared with parents.  The students were originally taking the reading PARCC (PBA) assessment if they were assessed at a specific score from the fall but this is no longer happening.  ALL third grade students, no matter what their fall OAA score, will be taking the spring OAA reading assessment.

Below you will find the testing dates for all Berea City School District Elementary schools.

    Third Grade Assessments:

    Test Name          Date

PARCC  Math PBA Feb 23 and Feb 24

PARCC  Math EOY April 14 and April 16

  • TO ALL KINDERGARTEN PARENTS:

Please note that beginning Jan. 5, 2015, kindergarten students will be permitted to walk to and from the buses and car loop unescorted. We are doing this to assist our students in preparation for Grade 1 procedures, while still under the watchful eye of their kindergarten teachers. It is our hope that this will also assist parents with other young children in the car, especially during the colder months that are approaching.

    WHAT WILL ARRIVAL LOOK LIKE?

BUS RIDERS: Safety patrol will continue to  escort students off the bus, but will now lead them to the front door and into the cafeteria. A team of staff will supervise in the cafeteria until it is time to head to classrooms.
DROP OFFS:  Drop offs will continue in the car loop, Kindergartners can be dropped off and walk themselves on the front walk to the front door, just like all our other students. They will also report to the cafeteria until dismissal.

STUDENTS WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED TO COME IN AND SIT ON LINES ON THE FLOOR

    WHAT WILL DISMISSAL LOOK LIKE?
All kindergarten students will exit out the front door beginning Jan. 5, 2015. Bus riders will report to their bus tables, pick-ups will walk out the front door to the car loop to be picked up. If you prefer to meet you child at the door, you will need to park your car in the far lot, and walk to the main entrance to pick them up.

Teachers have discussed this with your children prior to Winter Break. Please add your voice to ours in sharing this revised procedure for arrival and dismissal.

    Thank you!
Big Creek Administrative and Kindergarten Team
