  • Letter from the Principal - August 8, 2018

    Berea-Midpark Middle School Families,

    My name is Nick Discenza and I am honored to serve as principal of Berea-Midpark Middle School this school year.  It has been an exciting summer of change and transformation. The building is coming together and I am very excited for our students to learn in our upgraded building and experience our new student-centered schedule we developed.  I apologize for the late communication, but wanted to provide as much accurate information as I could as I begin sharing some of the exciting things we have planned for the start of the year. Below is important information to help you and your child prepare for the coming year:

    • Open Houses - Grades 5 and 7 will be held Monday, August 20 at 6:30.  Grades 6 and 8 will be held Wednesday, August 22 at 6:30. More detail about the format of the open house will come soon.

    • Student Schedules - Infinite Campus will go live for families on August 20 at 1:00pm.  This will allow families to view student schedules and print them prior to Open House so you can tour the building and find your classes.  We went through a major overhaul of our master schedule to provide greater learning opportunities and re-establish teaming. We continue to fine tune the schedule and make changes daily.  The August 20 date will allow us to be sure we are as accurate as possible.

    • Student Locks - 5th grade students will not be using locks this year.  6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are welcome to use their school issued lock from a previous year (or even a sibling) as long as they are ones issued by the Berea City Schools.  We will also have locks for sale at the building for $4.50 (limited supply of used locks for $2.50). They can be purchased at the building any day before or after school begins on the 23rd between 7:00am and 3:00pm.  Locks can also be purchased in the office by students before school, at lunch, or after school when the year starts. We encourage all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to use a lock.

    • Student Lockers - 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are being assigned lockers individually and their locker number will appear in Infinite Campus and on printed schedules.  5th grade students will be assigned locker spaces by their 5th grade team when school starts.

    • Map of the Building - A map of the building will be provided at Open House to help students navigate and plan their routes for the year.

    • School Supplies - School supplies should be brought the first days of school.  There will not be a supply drop-off day prior to school starting. Feel free to send in a few items throughout the first days of school so that your child is not carrying too much on the first day.

    • Student drop-off/pick-up:  More detail will follow next week regarding student drop-off and pick-up.  This includes where buses will drop students off and pick them up.

    • Student Planners - All students will be supplied with a student planner by the school during the first days of school.  The planner will serve as a tool for students to record assignments and homework, for parent communication, and for hall passes.

    • Student First Days - Our staff has been busy planning an exciting first two days for kids.  We are going to keep it a surprise, but we will be adjusting our academic schedule those first two days a bit to create an exciting and energetic atmosphere for the kids as the enter our new middle school.

    • Further Communication - I will continue to update you periodically as the first day of school approaches. This will include our traffic patterns before and after school, physical education lockers and dress, and specifics about open house.

    • School Spirit: We are selling grade level shirts to help boost school spirit and identity. Each grade level will have a different color and can wear them on team days or assembly days. Check out the link below to place your order!

    • Finally, the building will be ready to welcome students on August 23rd!  We look forward to seeing you at Open House on either August 20th or 22nd!

  • Berea-Midpark Middle School Appointed

    April 2018

    discenza Dear School Community,

    I am pleased to announce that the Board of Education appointed Nick Discenza as principal for Berea-Midpark Middle School during its April 30 meeting.

    Following an extensive interview process, Nick rose as the top candidate above a highly competitive group of professional educators. He joins the Berea City School District from Parma City Schools, where he is currently principal at Shiloh Middle School. He has also served on the board of the Ohio Middle Level Association as a representative of the northeast for the past 5 years.

    Prior to his 6 years serving as a principal, he held the position of intern administrator at Hillside Middle School in Parma and assistant principal at Willowick Middle School in the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools. Nick taught 7th and 8th grade social studies at Heskett Middle School in Bedford and 7th grade social studies at Shiloh Middle School in Parma. He and his wife Allison, a 7th grade math teacher at Brecksville-Broadview Heights, have two children, Michael and Lydia.

    Nick is a leader who is highly effective at improving teaching and learning, and focused on the growth of students and staff. He will greatly enhance the district's transition to Berea-Midpark Middle School.

  • Summer Withdrawal Information

    If you will be withdrawing your child, please fill out the Summer Withdrawal form indicated on this website.  Return this form to the Main Office; the withdrawal process will be completed in August.  Please remember to settle any outstanding fees that are due prior to withdrawing your child. Summer Withdrawal Form
