Hour of Code at Brookview
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 35% of all high schools teach computer science.
That’s why our school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code! Between now and Winter Break but especially during Computer Science Education Week (December 3-9), Mrs. Meany, our Instructional Technology Coach, will be working with classes to learn the basics of coding through Hour of Code activities. More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code including many of our Brookview Students over the past couple of years. Our Hour of Code events are making a statement that Brookview is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, the following classes will be participating this year (the list will be updated as teachers schedule their class):
Kindergarten: Mrs. Sheely, Mrs. Karpinski & Mrs. Funk
1st Grade: Mrs. Rump & Mrs. Kwiatkowski
2nd Grade: Mrs. Mullins, Mrs. Smearman & Mrs. Greaves
3rd Grade: Mrs. Croy, Mrs. Nedoma & Mrs. Gulley
4th Grade: Mrs. Guenther, Mrs. Krueger & Mrs. Cubbison (4th Grade will be doing this after Winter Break due to their busy schedule with the Holiday Concerts).
This is our chance to change the future of education in Brook Park, Ohio! Ask your child to show you what they learned after their event.
