    December 14, 2020

     Dear Parents/Guardians,

    When in-person learning returns to 5 days per week, the ExtendED Program will also be available 5 days per week at our elementary schools; however, we must have registrations on file prior to any student returning to or attending our program.

    Our hours will remain as follows:  Monday through Friday: 6:30 AM until the start of school; after school until 6:00 PM.  A 3-day minimum, for both AM and PM sessions, is required for staffing purposes.

    Berea-Midpark Middle School families:  If enrollments do not increase by the time students return to school, it will be financially necessary to temporarily close that site until such time as enrollment increases.  Before and after school care will continue to be provided to your child/children via Big Creek Elementary ExtendED (7247 Big Creek Parkway)Parents will drop off and pick up their child/children at the far north entrance (closest to the playground).  Our Transportation Department will provide busing to and from the Middle School with times being communicated to parents before we return. Families will be notified before the return to school.  

    Those students who participated in the ExtendED Program during the Hybrid schedule will NOT need to re-register.  Parents/guardians will need to email the new schedule to egalbincea@bereaschools.org. All outstanding balances must be paid in full before returning to the Program.

    All others will need to either check to see if we have a current registration on file (2020-2021 school year) or complete a new registration (www.berea.k12.oh.us - Programs - ExtendED - registrations).  If completing a new registration, tab through the form completing all available spaces, download and email the registration form to egalbincea@bereaschools.orgHandwritten forms will not be accepted. If you’re not sure if a current registration form is on file, please email me at egalbincea@bereaschools.org.

    Enrollments at each site will be limited due to maintaining 6’ of physical distancing. All staff and students must wear a mask at all times.  When dropping off and/or picking up your child/children, buzz into the program and a staff person will greet you at the door.  Parents will not be admitted into the building.  In the morning, staff will take students’ temperatures and parents will sign a symptoms checklist; students will not be accepted into the Program if temperatures are over 99°.  

    Once enrollments are received, I will send a confirmation email.  An invoice will be sent at a later date.  This year only, tuition will be due at the end of each month of service (not a month in advance as in the past).

     

    I know the staff is looking forward to seeing all of their students again in the new year!  Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

    November 23, 2020

    With the recent email sent from our superintendent Tracy Wheeler, the ExtendED Program will remain closed through December.  December tuition will not be due and that amount will be credited to everyone's account.

     
    Those families who have already paid their December tuition can choose to either keep that balance on their account for when we return to school or to be sent a refund.  Please let me know by Thursday, December 3rd, if you would prefer a refund.  I will submit a complete list to the Treasurer's Office on Friday, December 4th, with refunds being sent mid December.

    The ExtendED Program is not available when there is no school.  This includes calamity days, holidays, winter and spring break, etc.  Frequently asked questions can be reviewed or you can email Elaine at egalbincea@bereaschools.org with any additional questions, concerns, etc.  Stay well.

     

     

    September 11, 2020

    If the District returns to face-to-face learning with a hybrid schedule (2 days per week), ExtendED will be offered before and after school Monday through Thursday.  Doors will open at 6:30 AM and will close at 6:00 PM.  All students must wear a mask and must understand and maintain physical distancing.  Registration forms are available for the hybrid schedule and must be completed prior to the start of the Program.  Families must use 2 days per week and 4 weeks per month in order to maintain sufficient staffing at each site.  If you've completed a 2020-2021 registration form previously, you do not need to complete another form; simply email your child/children's revised schedule to egalbincea@bereaschools.org.  Once all information is received and processed (new registrations included), an invoice will be emailed to you, which will include your registration fee and your first month's tuition.  A link will be provided should you wish to pay via credit (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) or you may send in or drop off a check.  Cash payments will no longer be accepted.

     Registrations are being taken for the ExtendED Program for when we resume face-to-face.  Please complete all information requested, download and email to egalbincea@bereaschools.org.

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

    After much consideration and deliberation, the District has decided not to move forward with offering all day child care services during the nine (9) week remote learning period.

    Our State of Ohio Licensed ExtendED Child Care Program had looked into taking its traditional before and after school program model and adapting it into an all day model. 

    In a survey sent to our families in May, child care was identified as one of the top 3 concerns for families when sharing that schools could be remote or hybrid in the fall. In an effort to address the needs and concerns of our community in regards to the remote learning decision, the district sent an interest survey to families surrounding a potential all day child care program. We asked for interest in this option because after the decision was made to open remotely, parents reached out to us again and asked us for child care solutions and we were simply trying to provide an option to help families in need.  

    Child care programs are open throughout Cuyahoga County; no recommendation was made by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health to close any child care facility whereas it was recommended all school districts in the county start the school year remotely. Offering child care for families is certainly not unique to our district as many districts across the nation are opening remotely with child care options in school buildings. 

    It is important to note that the district’s general fund does not cover the cost of our ExtendED Care Programs and it is a fully self-funded program. It is staffed by dedicated ExtendED Care staff and not teachers.

    Once school is back face-to-face, our ExtendED Program (before and after school) will resume. Registration forms will be available on the website by the end of August (www.berea.k12.oh.us - Programs - ExtendED).  You may complete the registration form and email it to egalbincea@bereaschools.org.  No payments are to accompany your registration; that will be communicated to you at a later date.

    We know some of our families need child care services during the remote learning period.  The following child care programs are offered in our District should you wish to contact them for availability:

    The ExtendED Program is a tuition-based program sponsored by the Berea City Schools Board of Education and is available to students, kindergarten through 8th grade (maximum age is 14), who are currently enrolled in the District.
     
    The programs have been designed to provide quality enrichment in areas such as language, arts and crafts, in-door and out-door play, music, homework assistance and much more! We will remain dedicated to you and to your children and continue to provide a safe, fun and often times educational experience before and after school.
     
    The ExtendED Programs are licensed and inspected by the Ohio Department of Education and follow School Age Child Care licensing rules.
     
    All ExtendED Program sites open at 6:30 am and close at 6:00 pm.  A 3-day minimum per AM AND PM session is required. ExtendED Programs are currently available at the following locations :

    AS YOU KNOW, MANY ORGANIZATIONS HAVE DEALT WITH DISRUPTIONS AND LOSS OF REVENUE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC AND HAVE HAD TO MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS.  IT IS WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION  HAS ELIMINATED LAURA ALBAUGH'S POSITION AS OFFICE ASSISTANT IN THE EXTENDED AND SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS.  PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS IS IN NO WAY A REFLECTION ON LAURA.  SHE WILL TRULY BE MISSED.
