Why can I not see my child’s bus stop from the house? 

Students may be assigned to a bus stop located up to one-half mile from their residence, in accordance with district transportation guidelines. Parents and guardians are encouraged to accompany their child to and from the bus stop whenever possible, particularly for younger students. This provides an opportunity to reinforce safe walking practices and promote student safety. Bus stop locations are established by the District based on safety considerations, routing efficiency, and Board of Education transportation policies.

Are sidewalks required for my child to get to his/her bus stop?

No. Sidewalks are not required for students to access their assigned bus stop. In some areas, students may need to walk along roadways, and sidewalks may not always be available. Families are encouraged to consider local walking conditions and ensure students are prepared for safe travel to and from the bus stop.

Can my child wait inside of my house or car until the bus is at the stop? 

No. Students must be at their assigned bus stop prior to the arrival of the bus. Being present and ready before the bus arrives helps maintain safe and efficient boarding procedures and prevents students from running after the bus, which is extremely dangerous and strictly prohibited. This expectation is in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 3301-83 regarding pupil transportation safety practices.

What time do I send my child out to the bus stop?

Students should be at their assigned bus stop and waiting outside approximately 5–7 minutes prior to the estimated bus arrival time. Students should be dressed appropriately for current weather conditions and prepared for possible delays due to traffic, mechanical issues, or other unforeseen circumstances that may affect arrival times.

Can my student ride home with friends on a different bus route?

No. Students are only permitted to ride their assigned bus route. Riding a different bus is not allowed, as bus assignments are based on routing, capacity, and safety regulations.

What is the maximum time a student may ride his/her school bus?                                                       

There is no specific statewide or federally mandated maximum length of time students are required to ride a bus. Each district is responsible for managing bus routes and ride times based on factors such as traffic conditions, geography, and routing efficiency. As a result, student ride times may vary depending on location, route structure, and daily conditions.

Are there seatbelts on the bus?

No. For maximum safety, school buses are designed with a compartmentalized seating system. This means the seats are equipped with high, padded backs and are spaced in a way that creates protective seating compartments. This design helps provide increased safety for students during travel.
