Britney Walters

Berea City School District is pleased to welcome Britney Walters as our new Parent Mentor.

The Parent Mentor Program, supported through The Ohio State University, is designed to support families of students with disabilities by providing information, guidance, and connection throughout their child’s educational journey.

Britney is the proud parent of a five-year-old student in Berea City Schools with Down Syndrome, as well as a two-year-old at home. As both a parent navigating special education and a military spouse, she understands firsthand how important communication, partnership, and trust are between families and schools. Through personal experience and formal training, she brings empathy and practical knowledge to this role.

As Parent Mentor, Britney is available to support families by:

  • Providing information about the special education process, including evaluations, IEP development and implementation, and transition planning

  • Helping families better understand state and federal special education rules and regulations

  • Connecting families to community resources and local supports

  • Sharing information about upcoming events and learning opportunities

  • Offering access to a Parent Mentor Resource Library

  • Connecting parents with support groups and parent-to-parent networking opportunities

The Parent Mentor role is not an advocate or decision-maker. Instead, it serves as a knowledgeable and supportive resource to help families feel informed, confident, and connected as they collaborate with the district to meet their child’s unique needs.

Families are encouraged to reach out at any time with questions or to learn more about available supports by contacting Britney at bwalters@bereaschools.org.

Additional information about the Parent Mentor Program, available resources, and upcoming opportunities can be found on the district’s Parent Mentor webpage.
