Big Creek Elementary School has been named a 2025 Blue Ribbon School by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW), one of just 14 schools in Ohio to receive this recognition.

Last year, Big Creek Elementary was nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Schools program based on criteria set by the U.S. Department of Education. When the national program was discontinued, ODEW committed to honoring all 14 nominated Ohio schools with state-level recognition, a testament to the fact that the achievement itself never changed, only the stage on which it will be celebrated.

"This recognition means so much to our entire Big Creek community. Our students work hard every day, and our teachers pour their hearts into making sure every child feels supported and challenged. This is their moment, and I couldn't be more proud of all of them," said Bonnie Nagel, Big Creek Elementary School Principal.

"Big Creek Elementary exemplifies what it means to put students first. This Blue Ribbon recognition reflects the dedication you see in that building every single day, from the classroom to the hallways to everything happening behind the scenes. Our Titans community should be incredibly proud," said Superintendent Tracy Wheeler.

ODEW is currently developing plans to formally recognize schools at the state level in the coming months.

This recognition belongs to every student, teacher, staff member, and family who shows up every day to make Big Creek Elementary a place where all children can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
