Big Creek Elementary student Sadie Sanchez was recently recognized as one of only twelve winners across the State of Ohio in the 2025 Fire Safety Coloring Contest.

Ohio State Fire Prevention Educator Angela Potter visited Big Creek Elementary, along with Middleburg Heights Fire Chief Briant Galgas and Assistant Chief Dale Higginbotham, to present Sadie with her award during a school assembly. Sadie’s parents were also able to attend and celebrate the recognition with her.

Sadie’s winning poster focused on an important fire safety message: exit your house quickly and check the batteries in your smoke alarms. During the presentation, Potter shared Sadie’s artwork with the students and presented her with a certificate signed by State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon.

The Middleburg Heights Fire Department also recognized Sadie for her leadership in fire prevention education, noting the importance of helping others understand how to stay safe at home and in the community. Sadie also received a proclamation from Middleburg Heights Mayor Matthew Castelli in recognition of her accomplishment.

Congratulations, Sadie, on this outstanding statewide recognition!
