AFS Host Families Needed

AFS Host Families Needed

To the Families of our Berea-Midpark HS Students:

AFS is an organization that facilitates opportunities for our students to study abroad and for foreign exchange students to live and study in our own community.  The global learning experience of hosting an international student in your family and home is a worthwhile opportunity that enriches not only the life of the visiting student, but also that of you and your family.

Berea-Midpark AFS is looking for host families for students who will attend Berea-Midpark High School during the '18-19 school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about another culture. All types of families make good hosts and families have a hand in choosing a student who best suits their family from a variety of countries. All that's needed is a bed, food and the same tender loving care and support you would want your own child to receive from a host family.

AFS students come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, are good students, have some level of English proficiency, bring their own spending money, have medical insurance, and AFS provides much support during the student's stay here. The reward of such an experience are endless!

Henrique from Portugal -- Jose comes a family that knows all about AFS. His brother has studied with AFS, and his family has hosted a student. He can't wait to participate himself! He does well out on his own, and is very adaptable to new or challenging situations. He loves sports, and one of his favorites has always been soccer, but he' recently taken up sailing. Sailing has taught him teamwork and perseverance through difficulty.  He's known to be chatty and funny.

Abel from France -- Abel describes his family as close-knit saying they are athletic travelers and love hiking in nature. He has two older sisters and two cats. He helps his dad outside with chores, like mowing & repairing things around the house. His mother says he has a sense of adventure and can't see him settling down in one place when he's older. Abel enjoys sailing and surfing. He is an avid surfer and skateboarder. In the future he would like to have his own skateboard/surf shop. He says he is "ready to discover other sports and activities." His favorite subject in school is English.
